In Brief: Chateau de Walzin Hike from Dinant

Overview

Returning eight months after my flood prohibited hike to the exquisite viewpoint of the Chateau de Walzin from Dinant. There are many possible permutations of this hike and any one of them is a must for a hiker in Belgium, just to see the dramatic privately-owned chateau looming above a cliff along the River Lesse. This one does a loop from a convenient free parking area near the Rocher Bayard and then a walk along arguably Belgium’s most beautiful river promenade to Dinant and back.

There are several places to eat and drink along this promenade. But if you are looking for an Untappd experience, then this cafe gives you the opportunity to try the house beer brewed by Brasseries des Legends. The cafe has made the interesting choice of an amber beer to represent them. It is not so dissimilar to a Palm or De Koninck but a little bit stronger at 7% alcohol. This is not one of my favorite styles hence the 3-beer rating. But you simply cannot beat the combination of a special beer and location. Definitely a fine reward after a brewtiful hike.
